The Capital of Culture Year stretches all the way to Risør, to the design meting and biennial Beyond Risør.

Beyond Risør is directly aimed at and made for designers – at an international level. The design meeting in 2008 is the third time this event is held, this time in cooperation with Stavanger2008 from 12 – 13 June.

The arena is a closed-down shipyard at Holmen in the middle of Risør harbour. The hall contains an exhibition, lectures, set design, catwalk, restaurant and bar. This enormous "black box" can receive more than 700 participants and is the perfect social and untraditional setting for a national meeting place for art subjects, design subjects and business interests.

At present, the international and national design audience has expectations to Norwegian design. Through an increasingly international focus, Beyond Risør contributes to strengthen this positive trend. The event is a biennial, i.e. takes place every second year.

The design meeting Beyond Risør was initiated by Risør municipality and cooperates with Norsk Kulturråd, Innovasjon Norge, Aust-Agder Fylkeskommune, Aust-Agder Kompetansefond, Sørlandets Kunstmuseum and professional organisations.
