Main sponsors & Project sponsors

Stavanger Aftenblad

Regional newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad signed up as a main sponsor for the Capital of Culture on 4 October 2005, making the media house one of the two first main sponsors of Stavanger2008.

Stavanger Aftenblad The contract with Stavanger Aftenblad has a ceiling of NOK 12 million, and includes publishing and distribution of a significant number of programmes. In addition, the agreement provides Stavanger2008 with extensive marketing space in the classified section.

We simply wish to help make this possible; to support a project which is so important to the entire region and thereby give something back to our district. Stavanger Aftenblad has a long tradition of backing up local organisations and associations. Naturally, we want to contribute to such a major cultural effort.

Of course, we are not completely altruistic. We also think we ourselves will benefit. We often say “What’s good for Rogaland is good for our newspaper”. Goodwill is important in a competitive market, and of course, with more things going on, there will be more for us to write about, too. A simple, but positive and important symbiosis”, said Johannes Bjerga, public relations manager of Stavanger Aftenblad when the news about the sponsor agreement was published in the autumn of 2005.

Stavanger Aftenblad is the leading multi-media company in the region, reaching more than 90% of the region’s 225,000 people. The company publishes news and advertisements through newspapers, internet, television, radio and mobile telephones. The group’s turnover in 2005 was NOK 574 million.
